My name is Christel (Wagle) Mozalevskiy and I began my MAT program through UAS several weeks ago. I am student teaching at Palmer High School as an art teacher, and am 100% sure that I am on the correct career path for my life. Outside of school, I teach private art lessons to children of all ages and create art in the little bit of free time I do have. My primary focus for my BA was transparent watercolor and my secondary area of emphasis was drawing. I dabbled enough in metalsmithing my final year of my degree to create my husband three wedding rings... so I would like to think that I can offer high school students a wide array of art techniques and mediums.

While I have lived in Alaska for ten years, the seven years before that were spent in Misawa, Japan. I absolutely love Japan and its people, and plan on teaching there in the years to come. Right now, I am a part of the Palmer-Saroma Kai, a non-profit organization that strives to strengthen the sister city bond between Palmer, Alaska and Saroma, Japan. I took two years of Japanese in high school and two semesters in college. This past summer I hosted a Japanese exchange student, and strive to remain active in Japan-Alaska opportunities.

I am eager to learn more about teaching in the classroom setting with a larger class size. My mentor teacher is an excellent example of what an art teacher should be, and I feel that our organization styles compliment each other well. The staff at Palmer High has been very accommodating, and I am so thankful to have fellow classmates Layne and Gabe in the same building as me! I look forward to this semester, and all that it brings.

  1. Christel, I saw your work on Pinterest (Red), which led me to deviantART and I just love your work! Do you sell anywhere like Etsy? Would love to know more!
